Cook the Beef: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef until it’s browned and cooked through, breaking it up with a spatula as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.

Add Vegetables: Add the finely chopped onion, bell pepper, and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook for 5-7 minutes, until the vegetables are softened and fragrant.

Make the Sauce: Stir in the ketchup, brown sugar, yellow mustard, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, salt, and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for about 10 minutes, until the sauce is thick and flavorful.

Prepare the Texas Toast: While the sloppy joe mixture is simmering, preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). In a small bowl, mix the softened butter with the garlic powder. Spread the garlic butter on both sides of each slice of Texas toast.

Toast the Bread: Place the Texas toast slices on a baking sheet and bake for about 5-7 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. You can flip the slices halfway through to ensure both sides are evenly toasted.

Assemble the Sloppy Joes: Spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto half of the Texas toast slices. If you like, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top. Place the remaining slices of Texas toast on top to form sandwiches.

Serve: Serve the Texas Toast Sloppy Joes hot, with your favorite side dishes.
