Step-by-Step Cleaning Guide:
Step 1: Prepare Your Cleaning Solution
Fill your spray bottle with equal parts of white vinegar and water. If you do not have a spray bottle, a bowl will work just fine.
Step 2: Wipe Down the Exterior
Start by cleaning the outside of your washing machine. Use a cloth dipped in the vinegar solution to wipe the machine’s front, sides, and top. Pay attention to knobs and buttons where dirt often accumulates.
Step 3: Clean the Detergent Drawer
Pull out the detergent drawer and use the old toothbrush dipped in the vinegar solution to scrub away residue and buildup. Rinse it thoroughly under hot water to remove any leftover dirt and vinegar solution.
Step 4: Clean the Door Seal
Pull back the rubber seal at the door to check for any trapped debris or mold. Use your vinegar-soaked cloth to thoroughly clean the seal. An old toothbrush can be handy here for reaching into crevices.
Step 5: Run the Cleaning Cycle
Pour two cups of white vinegar into the detergent drawer (we like using a big measuring cup for this) and run a hot water wash cycle without any clothes in the machine. This will help remove any mold, mildew, and soap scum from the drum and pipes.
Step 6: Add Baking Soda
After the vinegar cycle completes, sprinkle half a cup of baking soda directly into the drum and run another high-heat cycle. Baking soda effectively freshens and brightens the wash drum.
Step 7: Final Wipe Down
Once the cycle finishes, wipe down the inside of the drum with a dry microfiber cloth to remove any remaining residue. Leave the door open for a few hours to air out and help prevent mold from forming.
Following this routine once every month will help keep your front-loading washing machine running effectively and your clothes coming out fresh. Consider setting a regular cleaning schedule to ensure you never forget a cleaning session, thus extending the life of your machine and ensuring the best performance.
