Ingredients:
- Castor seeds (about 2 cups)
- Water
- A mortar and pestle or grinder
- A saucepan
- Cheesecloth for straining
Instructions:
- Collect and Clean the Seeds: Gather fresh castor seeds and ensure they are free from dirt and debris.
- Dry the Seeds: Spread the seeds in a sunny area and allow them to dry for 2–3 days.
- Crush the Seeds: Use a mortar and pestle or a grinder to crush the seeds into a coarse paste.
- Cook the Paste: Transfer the crushed seeds into a saucepan. Add enough water to cover them, then heat the mixture over medium heat for about an hour, stirring occasionally.
- Extract the Oil: As the mixture heats, the oil will begin to separate. Continue cooking until you see the oil floating on top.
- Strain the Oil: Once the mixture cools, use a cheesecloth to strain the oil into a clean glass jar or bottle.
- Store Properly: Keep your homemade castor oil in a cool, dark place to preserve its quality.
